Emerging Markets Manager Mirae Asset Global Investments Adds Personnel Across Functions
New Hires within Investments, Sales and Operational Teams Expand Capabilities of US Office
September 9th, 2014
Mirae Asset Global Investments (USA) LLC (“Mirae Asset USA”), one of the world’s largest investors in emerging markets*, continues to add personnel across functions as the firm enters its fifth year in the US market.
The investment team sees the most growth with the addition of four new analysts/portfolio managers, including two newly created sector-focused positions. Bert Van Der Walt, CFA joins the firm from Driehaus Capital Management as emerging markets Portfolio Manager/Senior Investment Analyst, and Ryan Coyle, CFA joins as Senior Investment Analyst from Caerus Global Investors to cover global consumer stocks. Christopher Radom, Ph.D formerly of JMP Securities joins as Investment Analyst and will focus on global healthcare, and Samuel Park, CFA previously with BofA Merrill Lynch, will cover the global IT sector as Investment Analyst.
The expanded coverage model and new hires will support the firm’s Great Consumer investment strategy. The strategy looks beyond the consumer staples and discretionary sectors to invest across a range of industries that may benefit from the new and growing consumer base in the emerging markets. Mirae Asset’s Great Consumer® funds employ a highly selective, bottom-up approach in research and stock selection through on-the-ground research from teams located around the world.
Additionally, Thomas Calabria joins the firm as Chief Compliance Officer from Burnham Asset Management.
Bringing the firm’s geographic coverage to the west coast, Peter Capotosto joins Mirae Asset’s sales team as a Regional Vice President, Emerging Markets Specialist, based in Los Angeles. Prior to joining Mirae Asset, Peter spent eight years with Blackrock Investments in various roles, most recently as a mutual fund specialist covering greater metropolitan Los Angeles.
“We continue to build our business here in the US and are enthusiastic about the direction in which the firm is heading. Our presence in California is a natural step to reach areas with large numbers of financial advisors” says Peter Graham, CEO of Mirae Asset USA and President of the Mirae Asset Discovery Funds.

Investment Considerations – There can be no guarantee that any investment strategy will be successful. All investing involves risk, including the potential loss of principal.
Emerging Markets Risk – The risks of foreign investments are typically greater in less developed countries, which are sometimes referred to as emerging markets. For example, political and economic structures in these countries may be changing rapidly, which can cause instability and greater risk of loss. These countries are also more likely to experience higher levels of inflation, deflation or currency devaluation, which could hurt their economies and securities markets. For these and other reasons, investments in emerging markets are often considered speculative. Similarly, investors are also subject to foreign securities risks including, but not limited to, the fact that foreign investments may be subject to different and in some circumstances less stringent regulatory and disclosure standards than U.S. investments
